Shopping in Andorra
Andorra's IGI is set at 4.5%, against 20% VAT in France and 21% in Spain. The gap concentrates on a few specific categories, not on everything. We arrange the shuttles and the timings, and we tell you honestly what is worth the trip and what is not.
Avinguda Meritxell
The main shopping street of Andorra la Vella, concentrating most of the brands along roughly two kilometres. Everything is done on foot.
Sport and mountain gear
Ski, hiking and outdoor equipment is one of the categories where the price gap stays widest, particularly out of season.
Shuttles and logistics
A day return from Toulouse or Barcelona, or a two-night stay with hotel. Luggage, timings and customs allowances handled.
What is genuinely cheaper, and what is not
It has to be said plainly: Andorra is not cheaper on everything. The 4.5% IGI creates a mechanical gap of fifteen to sixteen points on the pre-tax price, but that gap is partly absorbed by local margins in some categories, and entirely absent in others.

Where it is not worth the trip
Everyday food, high-street clothing and most services sit at prices comparable to France or Spain, sometimes higher. A trip whose only purpose was that kind of purchase makes no economic sense.
Customs allowances
This is the point most visitors underestimate. Andorra sits outside the European Union, so a customs check applies on the way back, in France as in Spain, with limited allowances per person and per category. Anything above is taxed, and checks on the N20 are frequent. We remind you of the current allowances before every departure.
Organising the day
Most brands are concentrated on and around Avinguda Meritxell, in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, so everything can be done on foot. Parking in the town centre is the main friction point in high season: our shuttles drop off and collect at fixed times, which removes the problem.
Combining with something else
Shopping alone rarely justifies more than a day. It does combine well with a half-day at the thermal baths or a day of skiing, which is the format we propose most often.

Is shopping in Andorra really cheaper?
On electronics, perfume, spirits, tobacco and sports equipment, the gap is real. On everyday food and high-street clothing it is small or non-existent.

Do I have to declare my purchases?

Can I come just for the day?
Yes, and it is the most common format from Toulouse and Barcelona. Allow five to six hours of driving return, which leaves a good half-day on site.
Are some periods better than others?
End of season, particularly on sports equipment in April and September, and the Spanish and Andorran sale periods.
Do I need a car?
Not if you take a shuttle. The whole shopping area of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany is walkable.
